In Belgium 2005 Journal Part One
I'm going to share with you a short journal I kept during my first DJ tour in Belgium. I was sending the journel out as short emails to family and friends. I figured now I'll let you have at it. I'll be breaking it up into small parts that I post once a week with a picture or two included.
(I returned to Belgium in March of 2006 to do another small DJ tour and I will share those journal entries when this one ends.) Here we go...
WARNING: I use a lot of obscenities! If you are under the age of 18 stop reading this NOW!
HEY, I said stop now...

Belgium is good. I made it here with no problems. Everyone I've met has been nothing but nice. Especially the promoter who brought me in.
Day 1 Thursday
I arrived on Thursday and by about 4:30 pm I had met up with Bart (promoter) and we were off and running. We first went to Clues to meet the owner, see the setup for Friday night, and have a beer or two. (Here I was introduced to the Devil...more later) Clues is a tiny dive bar that holds maybe 100 people if you're lucky. I had never been more excited to play somewhere. The owner was right out of a movie. I think he made me laugh 3 to 400 times in my short visit at his bar.
Second we made a quick pit stop at the supermarket and then we headed for Decadance were Bart had to play. Bart dropped me off at his friend's apartment and then headed to the club. His friends were incredibly nice. We had drinks and wonderful conversation. After a couple of Aphex Twin albums and a few more drinks we set off to Decadance. (This was at about 11:30pm.)
Decadence is in Ghent and sits in the middle of a University Campus. Ghent is about 15 minutes outside of Brussels. The University must be something like Michigan State. Everywhere was a clusterfuck of shit-faced kids. At this point I was well on my way to being one of them.
After peeing on the side of a building I made my way into Decadence. Its actually a really nice place. I think you could squeeze around 5 to 600 people in it if you really had to. An old beautiful wood bar runs the length of the lower level. There is a nice wood staircase in the middle-back of the bar that leads to two balconies that rest on either side. (The nice old style ones with wood floors and wood railings. Like a whore house.)
The first dj was ok, the second was really really good technically but very much on the verge of trance. Then Bart got up and played a lot of Detroit/Chicago Techno and Acid house so I felt much better. By about 6:00 am I didn't feel better anymore. All I wanted was to get in a bed. The owner of Decadance let me sleep on a couch in the private apartment behind the club. So little Scotty went to sleepy. This was about 7:45 am. We didn't leave till 9:45am.
